Ian O. Smith, PhD Materials Scientist/Environmental Specialist
Materials Scientist/Environmental Specialist TriterraIan has more than 12 years of experience in scientific/engineering research and development, publication, environmental safety, and hazardous waste management. His expertise in materials science allows him to apply a wide range of analytical and problem-solving skills to ongoing and upcoming Triterra projects. Ian is a licensed Asbestos Inspector for the State of Michigan and is trained as a Residential/Commercial Mold Inspector. He regularly provides due diligence services, such as Phase I/II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs), Baseline Environmental Assessments (BEAs), building inspections, and indoor air quality assessments, for property transactions. Ian routinely assists with free product recovery and soil/groundwater sampling activities. Evaluation of data and report writing also comprise a significant portion of his time.
Additionally, Ian serves as a reviewer for numerous technical publications, including Polymer, Colloids and Surfaces, the Journal of Biomedical Materials Research, and the Annals of Biomedical Engineering, and serves as a technical advisor for legal counsel. Ian is also an active member of the Engineering Society of Detroit, the Order of the Engineer, and American Mensa. Ian is passionate about environmental and scientific education and has volunteered his time to outreach and mentorship programs in greater Lansing and Ann Arbor, Michigan.
